THE Fraser Coast’s annual dog registration inspection program for 2023 will begin in March.
Council approved the 2023 program at its meeting this week.

The program will start on 1 March 2023 and run through until the end of August.
Fraser Coast Regional Council staff and contractors conducting the inspections will visit homes across the region between 7am and 5pm, Monday to Saturday.
While officers hope to complete the inspection without having to enter a property, they do have power under the Animal Management (Cats and Dogs) Act 2008 to enter a property.

Some 17,610 dogs were re-registered in 2022.
Pet owners who have not yet re-registered their dogs are being encouraged to do so as soon as possible.

Owners found with unregistered dogs are liable for a $287 fine as well as the cost of registration.
If you have not registered your dog or your pet’s details have changed, especially if it has passed away, contact Council on 1300 79 49 29 and speak to a Customer Service Officer.
Benefits of registering your dog with Council
- If an animal is found wandering or is taken to the pound, registered dogs can be reunited with their owners quickly.
- It’s more difficult to reunite dogs with their owners if they are unregistered, do not have a microchipped or the information on the microchip is out-of-date. It’s important to keep these details up-to-date – with Council and the group that holds your pet’s microchip data.
- If you have a new dog, registration is free the first time you register your animal in the Fraser Coast region.
- Dog registration fees help pay for animal management, training programs and improved access to dog-friendly open spaces.
