New local business Ultime Velo has witnessed firsthand the growth in the movement and the benefits cycling brings to riders.

But, Ben Edwards and Emily Stewart also know the difficulties riders face when it comes to keeping their bicycles in perfect condition.

It’s not uncommon to hear stories about how a rider has been spending a lot of time in the saddle, growing in their sport or achieving their fitness goals but it all comes to a stop when their bike needs a service or repair work.

“For many people it’s difficult to transport their bicycles to a workshop for a service or repairs. Not everyone has a rack for their car or they just struggle to find the opportunity to take time off work to drop off their bike and to pick it up again,” Ben explained.

“That’s where we looked at the market and saw the genuine need for a mobile bicycle workshop on the Fraser Coast.”

Emily said Ultime Velo was a fully mobile bicycle servicing and repair business – already active across the Fraser Coast and Bundaberg.

“We’ll come to you,” added Ben.

“Our vehicle has been set up so we can work anywhere – whether its on the front verge at your home, in the carpark at work or even on the sidelines of a local event or race.”

The convenience factor brought by Ultime Velo is changing the local industry.

“We’ve had a few ‘pop-up’ sessions on weekends where we let people know via social media where we will be stationed on a Saturday morning. We can then work on bicycles that might need a quick tune up, service or tyre change, for example, while you enjoy a coffee!”

“We can perform any service on the go and if we’re called out to do repair work, our goal is always to get your bicycle usable before we leave. If we need to order a specific part that we might not have in the mobile workshop, we’ll have it delivered and then come and fit it.”

Ben is a certified mechanic (with Cytech) and can work on any bicycle make or brand. He is also qualified to service and repair Bosch E-bikes and has extensive experience with Shimano Steps.

“When it comes to bicycles, it’s always important to have a qualified mechanic work on your bike. This not only ensures it’s in top condition and you can get the most out of your ride, but it’s also safer,” said Ben.

With the Festive Season quickly approaching, Ben said Ultime Velo were also available to build bicycles that might be ordered online or bought unassembled for Christmas presents.

“Whether the bicycle is for you or your kids, we’ll make sure it’s safe and built properly before you set off on a ride.”

Whether you’re after a quick service, a bike build or major repairs, Ultime Velo has you covered.

Mountain biking

Meanwhile, the team is also looking to grow mountain biking as a sport in the region.

The Ultime Velo Maryborough Mountain Biking & Trail Riding group on Facebook is all about getting likeminded riders together to enjoy their sport.

The group is open to all mountain bike riders and will include rides on trails, rail trails and family days.

Ben and Emily are particularly excited about the Mary to Bay Rail Trail – linking Maryborough and Hervey Bay via the old railway line.

The rail trail will provide a shared pathway between the two cities for cyclists, pedestrians and horse riders.
