It’s estimated that around 69 per cent of Australians will have at least one non-melanoma skin cancer excised in their lifetime. This is expected to rise as the population ages.
With our outdoor climate in mind, it’s important that we prioritise looking after our skin.
The Cancer Council’s upcoming Skin Cancer Action Week (21-27 November) is the perfect opportunity to do just that – to learn more about skin cancer prevention, detection, diagnosis and treatment options.

GenesisCare will host a free skin cancer information session and morning tea in Hervey Bay on Thursday, 1 December 2022.
The event takes place at The Mantra Resort from 10am.

Dr Wong said the best sun protection measures still include: wearing sun protective clothing and sunglasses and applying broad-spectrum, water-resistant and minimum SPF30 sunscreen.
Don’t forget to reapply often and whenever you get out of the water!

Wearing a broad-brimmed hat that covers your face, head, neck and ears is also advisable, as is staying in the shade whenever possible.
GenesisCare also recommends regular self body checks – including areas not exposed to the sun.
If you notice any new spots or changes, make an appointment to see your doctor or skin specialist.
