MARYBOROUGH State High School continued its successful return at the Australian Education Awards last weekend.
The school received Excellence Awards in the Secondary School of the Year – Government and Special Education School of the Year categories.
Principal Simon Done said he was proud Maryborough SHS had continued its tradition of performing well at the national awards ceremony.
Maryborough SHS has now won 11 Excellence Awards in the past four years.
“To continue that tradition of acknowledgment for excellence is an amazing achievement in itself,” Mr Done said.
Over the years, Maryborough SHS has been awarded Excellence Awards for its extra curricula programs, special education, wellbeing and strategic planning, among other things.
“It’s great to be acknowledged as an Excellence Award winner for high schools across the nation. Particularly in regional areas, as the perception is the opportunities for students in regional Queensland are not as available as the south-east corner,” Mr Done said.
“We are very proud to break that stereotype.
“Further, our work in special education means we are providing opportunities and inclusivity for all students across the entire school.”

Mr Done told Good News Fraser Coast the awards received by the school since 2019 reflect consistency in their programs and mission.
Even though the school has increased in size, Mr Done believes it has maintained its small school presence and feeling.
“Over the last six years the school has doubled in size. However, the quality of delivery and achievement has not diminished.
“That is a tremendous achievement for, not only our students, but our staff, parents and supporters – all working together as a community.”
