THE Fraser Coast Regional Council has appointed Fraser Coast Rotary Events to operate the weekly Maryborough Market.
Division 3 Councillor Paul Truscott said the move will bolster the popularity of the market.

“People know of Rotary and the good things they do in our community so I think they will get behind them and show their support to the weekly Thursday market,” Cr Truscott said.
“While the market does attract some visitors from out of the region, they are not a tourist drawcard by themselves, they are important to our local community. They are much loved and very popular with our locals.

The market, held in Adelaide and Ellena streets in the Maryborough CBD, has been going for more than 30 years and has survived floods and the reconstruction of the CBD streetscape.
“It is an important component in the local economy, encouraging sales by local businesses and the purchase of local products and give local businesses an opportunity to showcase their products as well as bringing residents together socially,” Cr Truscott continued.
