Bodies like the RACQ in Queensland are urging motorists to Drive Like Your Life Depends On It.

The RACQ campaign specifically targets drivers in regional areas. More than 40 billboards with the safety message are being rolled out across the State.

One way you can improve your safety these holidays is by making sure your vehicle is in good condition.

Your car, ute, SUV or 4WD might look and sound great, but there’s more to it than that.

Chris Wicks from Bob’s Tyre Centres and TJM said its vitally important for motorists to remember their tyres.

“Braking and handling is a massive road safety factor, especially if you need to stop pretty quickly,” said Chris.

He said there are a number of ways you can tell how old your tyres are.

“Each tyre has a four-digit age code and cracks are also signs of age.”

Tyres also have a wear mark indicator within the tread.

“These can all be inspected by a local tyre fitter or salesperson,” said Chris

Wheel alignment and balancing should be checked every 10,000km or 12 months.

Tyre pressure should be checked monthly.
