YOU better find your Christmas hat and start warming up your singing voice because one of Hervey Bay’s favourite holiday traditions is returning to Seafront Oval.

The 2021 installment of the Hervey Bay RSL Carols by Candlelight is set to usher in some Christmas cheer on Saturday, 11 December 2021 as the year begins to draw to a close.
The event will again offer family-oriented fun and an opportunity for the community to come together and reflect on the great work community and volunteer groups get up to throughout the year.

Festivities will wrap up with a fireworks display.
Good News Fraser Coast caught up with event organisers Julie Terry from the Hervey Bay Christian Ministers Association and Luke Strochnetter from 360 Degrees Marketing recently.
“The carols night in Hervey Bay has been going on for around 40 years in some form so it has definitely become a local tradition,” said Julie.
“People look forward to the event. We might go through different things each year but the message behind Christmas never changes.”

Julie knows a thing or two about what makes the annual event successful having organised about 30 over the years.
“It’s all about creating a fun and safe environment for families.
“People always put their hands up to help make it happen and it’s a good opportunity for the community to come together in a happy environment. After all, Christmas is about people and relationships.”

The event, presented by the Hervey Bay RSL and supported many local businesses, has become a Hervey Bay highlight over the years with locals, visitors and holidaymakers gathering to celebrate Christmas with a picnic under the stars.
Around 8,000 people are expected to attend this year’s event.
Luke said there will be a mix of traditional and modern Christmas songs.
“Our theme is Love in Action and we want to use it highlight the good work our community and volunteer groups get up to.”
Videos will be played on the oval’s big screen throughout the night.

There will also be collection points for people to drop-off non-perishable food items that will be distributed to those in need by We Care 2.
Glow sticks will be sold on the night, with money raised helping support school church programs.
“Santa will also make a special guest appearance,” said Luke.
Gates open at 4.30pm with the official program running from 6pm until 8pm.
Local food vendors will be available for those wanting to buy dinner and refreshments.
