Fraser Coast students celebrate finishing their degrees despite COVID challenges

THE latest cohort of Fraser Coast students from the University of the Sunshine Coast, who completed their degrees in the midst of the pandemic, celebrated a major academic milestone in Hervey Bay today.

About 20 USC received their degrees at a graduation at the Beach House Hotel.

Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Helen Bartlett said the ceremony was a chance for the students to reflect on their academic journey and enjoy the rewards for their commitment to gaining news skills and knowledge that would provide the foundations for their careers.

“USC is incredibly proud of the achievements of our graduating students, who have had to show additional resilience and determination dealing with the challenges and disruptions presented by the COVID pandemic over the past 18 months,” Professor Bartlett said.

“For their friends and family, lecturers and tutors and the wider Fraser Coast community, it is a wonderful opportunity to share in their success.

“They will now join other USC alumni who have gone on to achieve impressive career goals and make a positive impact on the communities where they live and work.”

A number of high-achieving students were recognised with USC Commendations for Academic Excellence at the ceremony.

Those who made outstanding contributions to USC or the wider community through co-curricular and service endeavours received Student Leadership Awards.
