The Maryborough-Hervey Bay Road is a State Government Road managed by the department.

Cr Lee described the intersection as dangerous, saying there was a “foreseeable risk of a fatal collision at this intersection unless the speed limit is reduced to 70km/hr.”

“Recently street lighting, which I understand was funded by the Federal Government, was installed at the intersection to improve visibility,” the motion read.

  1. Yes it is the most dangerous intersection in Hervey Bay. Especially if turning right from Nikenbah onto the highway and cars are approaching from Maryborough, the amount of cars taking chances and then having to accelerate like crazy to reach 100 is not acceptable. This speed limit should have been changed to 70 years ago.

    1. Hi Graham, thank you so much for your feedback. I can also only imagine more people trying to get onto Maryborough-Hervey Bay Road there in the years to come with all the houses being built in Nikenbah. Also, the tip is right there meaning there are often rubbish trucks and vehicles towing trailers that use the intersection and cannot always get across quickly. It will be interesting to see how the outcome of the motion.

  2. The speed limit needs to be reduced and extending the 70 km per hour prior to this intersection would increase safety. As a frequent user of this intersection, I have seen too many near misses and it is only a matter of time before there is a fatality.
