It’s been a really good week for our local foodies.

Hervey Bay Pitmaster Denis Maher recently won a five month-long BBQ competition.
The story made me think about some of the other food-related stories Good News Fraser Coast has reported on since going live at the beginning of February 2021.
From new restaurants and seafood markets to the benny king of the bay and healthy sporting snacks, we have covered some really inspiring stories that our local foodies have really enjoyed.
Eating out and dining stories are often our top performing content pieces online and on social media.
So this one is for the foodies!
Below is a list of five of the top performing food stories that have been featured on the Good News Fraser Coast website.
New Hervey Bay restaurant to focus on fresh, local seafood
Banksia Seafood and Grill opened in March in the old Hoolihans building on the Charlton Esplanade in Torquay. We caught up with head chef Saul Collins ahead of their official opening to learn a bit more about what they had install for Hervey Bay locals and visitors to the seaside town.
PHOTOS: Hervey Bay Pitmaster wins national BBQ comp
Hervey Bay Pitmaster and local foodie Denis Maher flew the Fraser Coast flag high by winning a nationwide virtual BBQ competition. The comp played our over five months and had Denis thinking up some impressive dishes.

Touch footy players all scream for ice cream
The popular Planet 72 Ice Creamery along the Charlton Esplanade saw a massive spike in customers when hundreds of touch footy players descended on Hervey Bay for the annual Junior State Cup last month. Owner Dallas Harch said the venue normally sold 25 per cent more ice-cream during the touch footy carnival.

The Hervey Bay Cricket Association received national recognition for its focus on healthy and nutritional food earlier this year. Providing healthy food options at the canteen during the cricket season has become a key focus of the association. The association was recognised as the 2020 Good Sports Healthy Eating Club of the Year.
