It’s a passion and a positive outlet for many Fraser Coast residents.
So, when it came time to reward several passionate artists for their contribution to the arts, the Hervey Bay RSL was happy to support the Hervey Bay Art Society’s annual competition with a $500 Community Grant to cover the cost of prizes.
The artists had been giving their brush bristles a workout for the past few months while preparing for the highly anticipated 37th Competitive Art Exhibition at Gatakers Artspace on July 3.
Entrants from Hervey Bay and Maryborough, Brisbane, Sunshine Coast and Bundaberg turned out in droves for big event.
Vice President Rolf Sieber said he was impressed with the calibre of works entered in the seven different sections including the open section, landscapes, seascapes, flora and fauna, figurative and portraiture, abstracts and miniatures.

It was also lovely, he said, to reward the artists for their hard work thanks to the RSL grant.
“Sponsorship makes it possible for the society to organise these exhibitions and special workshops,” Mr Sieber said.
He said the society also hosts 10 monthly exhibitions at their Urangan gallery.
“It is very important to promote the arts in our community. The Hervey Bay Art Society plays an important culture role in the by promoting the arts and providing a focal point for artists and like -minded people to meet and join in social activities.
“The artists are all local members of our society and those exhibitions are very popular amongst the art loving community of Hervey Bay and tourists alike,” he said.
“Our exhibitions are all different every month they change from landscape, still life to abstracts and so on, this is what makes it very unique.”
