More than 200 teams are expected to take part in one of the region’s biggest annual sporting events from 8-10 July, 2021.

The event makes a welcome return this year after the 2020 edition had to be cancelled due to COVID-19.

The Hervey Bay Touch Association said preparation was well underway ahead of the carnival.

President Jodie Houliston is urging the community to get behind the event.

She said the tournament was vitally important to the local community and volunteers would help make it an even bigger success.

“The town reaps many rewards from having the carnival in Hervey Bay. Accommodation venues, food outlets, clubs and even local supermarkets and stores are really busy for the duration of the event.

“We need the support of the community and our members to assist with the tasks that a small group of volunteers perform every year,” she said.

You do not need to have children involved in the carnival to become volunteer.

Volunteers can help out in a number of ways, including: field marking and measuring, food preparation, cleaning facilities, canteen duty, BBQs and clearing litter, among other things.

Jodie said people who want to volunteer and offer their help can Email herveybaytouch@gmail.com or contact the association on its Facebook page.

She also urged the local community to come out and support the players when the carnival kicks off in the school holidays.

“It would be really great to have people out and about watching the action.”

Meanwhile, the Fraser Coast Regional Council said the event would provide an economic boost for the region.

Deputy Mayor Darren Everard said earlier this year the carnival would attract more than 7,000 people to the region.

He said a cash injection of around $2-million into the local economy was expected.

Jodie shared a similar sentiment when she said many of the players and officials travel to the region for more than just the three days of action, bringing their families and friends in tow.

The 2021 Junior State Cup takes place at the sports fields in Tavistock Street, Torquay from 8-10 July, 2021.
