And no, this is not about the super blood moon tonight.

Jetstar’s direct flights between Hervey Bay and Sydney took off today.

And to celebrate, the airline is offering a special.

You’ll need to be quick though, the sale ends at 11.59pm tonight (unless sold out prior).

You can get more information on flights and specials by clicking here.

If you’re lucky, you can grab tickets from $65.

The occasion even made it into today’s question time in Parliament.

Member for Hervey Bay Adrian Tantari asked Minister for Tourism Stirling Hinchliffe to explain the benefits of the flights to the House.

Mr Hinchliffe said the new flights were expected to support 67 local jobs and deliver $8-million to Hervey Bay’s economic recovery plan.

“Whether you work on a whale watching boat, at a motel or restaurant or are a café operator, this is great news for Fraser Coast tourism,” he said.

Mr Hinchliffe said 10 travel writers and influencers were on the first flight from Sydney to Hervey Bay that touched down this afternoon.

He said they would be based on the Fraser Coast for two days so they can share their great travel experiences with the rest of Australia.

“We know Australians are taking more regular holidays at home with the ongoing closures of the international borders and this is an important part of the way in which we are working across the industry to help support [the industry].”

Mr Hinchliffe concluded by saying recent data suggest four of Australia’s top five tourist destinations are located in Queenslad.

“Hervey Bay and the Fraser Coast has been a shining light and a great success and I commend the Member for Hervey Bay and the Mayor of the Fraser Coast for what they have done.”
