Fraser Coast schools making the news

GOOD News Fraser Coast recently sent out a call for school news, and school news we shall share.

From anniversaries and dance programs to reading competitions and national awards, there’s definitely a lot for our schools to be proud of here on the Fraser Coast.

Below are just a few of the top performing school news articles that have been published on Good News Fraser Coast in recent weeks.

Maryborough State High School has received national recognition for the second year running. The school received the Australian Government High School of the Year Excellence Award for 2021. The accolade came just days after Maryborough State High School celebrated its 140th anniversary.

Dozens of Wide Bay students will descend on Xavier Catholic College Hervey Bay in June for the 2021 Readers Cup. Teacher librarian Graham Bebington said the hugely popular competition was a great way to instill of love for reading and books in children.

A group of local high school students have learnt important skills and gained valuable experience while working on the new water playground at ANZAC Park in Maryborough. Three Aldridge State High School students worked working on the project as part of their work experience with local building company PBS.

Granville State School celebrates the centenary of the war memorial on its grounds. The World War 1 memorial has kept a close eye over the school and its students since April 3, 1921 – proudly displaying the names of the men from Granville who fought in The Great War. The names of the soldiers who died in battle are also engraved on the plinth.

Students at the Hervey Bay Performing Arts College received their first taste of a professional audition when choreographers and producers from Melbourne visited the school. The students were given the opportunity to take part in a ‘mock’ audition, with producers and performers touring Queensland showing them the ropes.

Fraser Coast Anglican College marked ANZAC Day and its 26th birthday with a special assembly. In addition to honouring the country’s servicemen and women, a six-tier cake depicting the colleges, students, colours, houses and chapel was cut to celebrate the school’s anniversary.
