The two venues, both owned by Persal and Co, will go head-to-head in four categories, including:

  • Best Draught Beer;
  • Best Liquor Retail Outlet;
  • Best Gaming Venue and
  • Best TAB

General Manager Janet Persal said it was heartwarming to know that the two venues were being acknowledged as top achievers in the industry.

“It also says a great deal about the staff and their commitment and dedication,” Janet said.

“The awards ceremony allows us to thank them for their hard work.”

A group of 20 people will be travelling to the Brisbane Convention Centre for the ceremony on June 7.

The gala dinner is normally attended by around 2,000 people.

Hervey Bay Hotel Venue Manager Paul Robins said it was an exciting time for the team as they were the ones normally serving patrons but they would now be the centre of attention.

“Just being nominated as a finalist has a really motivating effect,” he said.

“It means so much to everyone that the hard work they put in and their professionalism is acknowledged externally as well.”

Paul said the fact that both hotels were finalists in four categories had led to some friendly banter and had helped raise the bar and level of service even higher.

“It just means all our different departments are performing well.”

Meanwhile, Janet said the nominations were testament to the venues’ ongoing efforts to better their facilities and level of service.

“There is always something that can be improved. During the COVID-19 lockdown period we actually used that time to do some refurbishments and spruce up the venues,” she said.

The hotels are no strangers to the awards having picked up numerous titles in the past.

“Not only is it great industry recognition but winning these awards really gives us something to market the venues,” Janet explained.

The accolades help out-of-town visitors know which hotels, restaurants, bistros and retailers to call in at.

“There was definitely an increase in business after we won categories in previous years,” agreed Paul.

Janet described the Fraser Coast as the perfect spot for visitors.

“It’s a beautiful area that is family friendly and has some of the best attractions and premier hotels and restaurants in Queensland – if not Australia.”
